Donington last Sunday

Donington last Sunday

Postby kevham » Fri Nov 03, 2006 1:13 am

In case anyone is interested, I did the MX5OC trackday at Donington last Sunday. Great weather, good company and a great track added up to a long but very enjoyable day.

I've posted a couple of videos:

Kev vs Lazza (5mb) WMV9 format

Red Stripey BBR (16mb) WMV9 format
1998 Mk2 1.8i - owned 2004-2010
1998 Mk2 Roadster VS - sold to MX5parts.co.uk
1994 Mk1 1.8iS - owned 1998-2001

Hmm...when is a track day not a track day, when you have someone like red stripey taking part. I appreaciate Donnington is a wide track and you were able to pass some of the slower cars on the wide corners but in my opinion what I saw on your video was downright dangerous.
Because he was so close to you coming up to and going through the corners, the slightest of contact would have possibly spun you both off and he tried to take you on the corners a couple of times before you finally let him through.

To be honest, Red Stripey wasn't too bad - it looks worse on the video than in reality. However, his mate in another car did warrant a complaint to the marshalls (something I have never done before). After the marshalls had a word, he did calm down a bit and he did apologise to me - so all ended well.

It is worth noting that there was one big 'off' involving a '5 - chap overcooked it going into the chicane and he had a tankslapper before bouncing off the tyrewall. One of the few places at Donington where there is a real risk of hitting tyres and those in the know always take it a bit easier there.

There is a video from inside his car on youtube - cant find the link right now.

Trackdays can be dangerous (which is why I'm investing in a Hard Dog).

Doesn't Lazza have a turbo or supercharger? If so you kept up with him very well Kev.

Yes, Lazza has a very well sorted car with BRP MP62, TDR Intercooler pushing out around 220bhp. I was around 3 seconds a lap quicker than him but it was his first time at Donington (my third time).
