Knockhill Hot Hatch MX5 Session

.... for those that enjoy 'tracking' their car.

Knockhill Hot Hatch MX5 Session

Postby crayons » Wed Jul 22, 2015 10:51 am

Myself and a few of the other guys running in the Scottish MX5 Cup are looking at doing a track day. Having talked to Knockhill they have said that if we get 22 cars together we can have one of the hot hatch sessions to ourselves.

Thinking the 30th August at the moment.

Anyone else up for this?

¿ Idea of the cost ?
Me - probably - bit close to my holidays (next day) so the wife might veto but - well - "probably" :D :D :D

Knockhill Hot Hatch MX5 Session

Postby crayons » Thu Jul 23, 2015 7:28 am

Cost would be £55. My first ever track time was in a hot hatch track day and it was great. Even better for a first timer if it was an all mx5 group on track as the cars will be more evenly matched than a mixed group.

Also one of the guys in Knockhill who prepares race MX5 has said he would be willing to let people have a go in a fully prepared car. They would just need to pay for the track time.

I'm interested in the idea of an mx5 only session, especially with some of the race prepped cars in the mix. If numbers are low and they have to 'top up' with the usual hot hatch punters, I'm perhaps less enthusiastic. Although at the moment it's all academic as I'm struggling to get the day off work.

On the topic of trackdays, I'm booked for Saturday 8th August with TrackScotland 6pm-8pm, spectators are welcome, Brads - why not come along and have a look, you could sign on as a passenger if you're feeling brave :)

I'll put the word out to the Eunos Ecosse hillclimb guys and girls to see if there's any interest from them.

I agree I think a group full of mx5s would be the best. Cheers Cardo it would be good to have the eunos ecosse and mx5 cup guys in the one place.

Weekend of 29th/30th August is the Forrestburn hillclimb so would rule out the Eunos Ecosse guys I'm afraid.
There would certainly be some interest if you could suggest an alternative date though..

I went to the last MX5 only trackday at knockhill (that I know of) way back in 2009-ish. It was great and a more gentle mix of cars than those you get at TrackScotland nights (I'm always the slowest!), but I recall that organisers had to notify at least 6 months in advance in order to get the numbers.

Maybe someone should arrange one for early next year? At least I should have mine back on the road then!

If you look for dates that don't clash with the hillclimb/sprint calendar I'm sure I can round up a good few Eunos Eccose punters....

I'll be heading up to Knockhill on Sunday. Be good to see some old faces after my sabbatical if anyone's up there.

GM.....what are you running about in now? Last I saw you it was a blue Mk1 on the track. And a red one !? when you turned up at the door for some parts.

Hey Kev,

Good to see you back in a 5, im not sure if I will be there on Sunday as I need to do some car shopping myself. Don't worry, I've still got a 5 (the same red mk1 you saw a couple of years back, now with buckets, roll bar and harnesses) but need to get something economical for daily use.

Have fun,
