Well that was a disappointment - I managed about 10 laps before a red flag prompted a driver change with one of my mates who hasn't been round knockhill before, he got about 5 laps done and the alternator belt snapped :( we got back to the pits before anything got too hot but coolant was spilled.

I had a spare belt in the boot so broke out the spanners and got busy, once everything was back together we topped the coolant and checked for leaks. There was a concerning amount of steam from the radiator area, too much to be just overspill, I suspect the belt did some damage to the radiator when it tore itself apart. I'll get the rad pressure tested next week but for now, the little mazda is in the doghouse ! it did get me home safely though so not all doom and gloom.

The three other mx5s looked like they were having a good time, even though it was chucking it down. I was quite jealous of the way the green mk1 was sliding round the hairpin :)

the red mk1 with the puddle under it :)

I checked the coolant this morning and it didn't lose a drop on the journey home, maybe I could have gone back out on track :( I'll get it tested anyway, it needs to be ready for the autotest down at Kames in a couple of weeks :)

Better safe than sorry. At least it lives for the next time.
